Prompt: “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams contains many powerful themes. Your task is to choose three different themes and explain how they relate to the play, using specific examples. You will also provide a brief summary of the play in the introduction.

Prewriting: (worth 5 points of your essay grade): Research and define what the term theme means in literature. Brainstorm ideas about the three themes you have chosen and fins specific examples from the play.

Essay (worth 20 points): After reading the play, “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams, write a brief summary and develop a thesis. This should appear in the introduction. The remaining paragraphs should focus on the themes you have chosen (one per paragraph), how they impact the work using specific examples. Lastly, in the conclusion, discuss what you liked about the work, and what you did not like.
